📍 General Information:

The Egyptian Bazaar, also known as the Spice Bazaar, is a historical market located in Eminönü, Istanbul, just behind the New Mosque (Yeni Camii). It gets its name from the spices imported from Egypt during the Ottoman era.

🕰️ History:

  • Built in 1660, supported by Valide Turhan Sultan.

  • Constructed as part of the New Mosque complex.

  • It was designed as a foundation (vakıf) market to generate income for the mosque.

  • Has survived multiple fires and earthquakes; restored several times.

  • Contains around 85 shops and has 6 main entrances.

  • Retains Ottoman architectural elements such as arched ceilings and stone walls.
